Professor Suresh Benjamin currently works at the National Institute of Fundamental Studies (NIFS), Sri Lanka as a Research Professor. He is the head of the Ecology and Environmental Biology department.

Prof Suresh Benjamin received his Mag. rar. Nat. (MSc) from the University of Innsbruck, Austria and his PhD from the University of Basel, Switzerland.

Prior to joining the NIFS, Sri Lanka, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California (Berkeley), The George Washington University, and Smithsonian Institution. He is also an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow and visiting researcher at the Zoological Research Museum Alexander Koening, Bonn, Germany.

His research interests are Evolution, Speciation, Molecular Phylogeny and Systematics of invertebrates.
